Words… Words are everywhere, words make up books, and the power of words make The Book Thief as good as it'll ever get. Words help us communicate with others, but mainly they have positive and negative sides to them. In the novel, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Death narrates the story while Liesel Meminger also tells her story of living in Nazi, Germany. There are many people who use words in positive words like Max and Liesel, but then theres this terrible person, Adolf Hitler who uses his words to persuade others to do things in horrific ways. Liesel cares for others before herself in many different ways which allows her words to be kind, even if she has to deal with her rude mother Rosa. Max has positive words by being a supportive friend

The Book Thief gives an example when everyone in Molching had burned all the books that were associated with Jews, which is where Liesel stole her first book, The Gravedigger's Handbook. “The book felt cool enough to slip inside her uniform. At first it was nice and warm against her chest. As she began walking, though, it began to heat up again. By the time she made it back to Papa and Wolfgang Edel, the book was starting to burn her. It seemed to be igniting … To the side of the collection of silhouettes, another one stood, a few meters removed, and Liesel realized two things: 1. The Shadow’s identity and 2. The fact that it had seen everything” (Zusak 121). Another example which is when Hans goes to turn his application in to join the Nazi Party, and the people had been vandalizing many Jewish shops in Molching. Hitler had many people fear him just with his words of his great speech manship and his power as well. Since he feared millions of people, this had kept him at the top and allowed him to keep influencing the people of Germany which led him to murdering the innocent
