(1) The Book of Romans is a Jewish evangelistic tract. Paul convinces the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah and should be believed in. His numerous arguments help convince the Jew that he should place his faith (or hold onto) in the Messiah. Paul’s poignant questions and clear refusals dismiss the many false teachings that were causing confusion among the Jews.
(2) The Book of Romans presents the theology of redemption in Christ Jesus. Paul systematically presents the meaning and implication of our faith in our lives. Several key comprehensive salvation themes are given in Romans to help us understand the special place that Jesus’ work has in God’s overall eternal plan.
(3) The Book of Romans can also be seen as a personal letter to the Roman church to help the Church of Rome understand why he had not yet visited them. He also wrote to help them properly handle a number of issues and questions that arose largely due to the mix of Jew and Gentile believers in the Roman
