Essay On The Black Lives Matter Movement

In the beginning of class we had an outstanding and heated debate over the Black Lives Matter movement. Deja, Jansen, and I believed that the Black Lives Matter movement is important and the police are hunting down African Americans. Another group was on the same side as us and one group debated that the Black Lives Matter movement was not important, they believe polices officers are just doing their job. All three groups gave amazing arguments and speaking for myself I believe both side have valid points. After doing research and listening to all of my classmates’ opinion I still believe the police are hunting down African Americans and the Black Lives Matter movement is important. The Black Lives Matter movement is an activist movement started in 2013. They campaign against police brutality against African Americans. The Black Lives Matter movement holds offending police officers, our judicial system, and America as a whole responsible for the lives of all Americans including African Americans. The media has referred to the movement as a modern-day Civil Rights movement, while others have called it a hate …show more content…
population. For African American men to only make up such a small percent of the population and to have such a high rate of being killed by police is high alarming. Another reason why I am on the side of the Black Lives Matter movement is for the fact that police are not being held accountable for the lives that have taken while wearing a badge. Tamir Rice, Rumain Brisbon, and countless others were all unarmed; they were all killed by a police officers; and none of the offending police officers were charged with murder. I do not believe the this is an absolute problem in the United States, but it is not limited to one region of America. There have been killing across the U.S. This is why I am on the side of the Black Lives Matter
