"But he was able to understand one thing: making a decision was only the beginning of things. When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision" (Coelho 70). This quote from Paul Coelho's novel The Alchemist reflects on that idea that when someone decides to take risks and persevere, they will discover so many opportunities and uncover their own character. Just like the protagonist, Santiago, from The Alchemist, I have experienced my own journey to find myself and who I am, and it all starts with a friend, a river, and a canoe. This narrative will explain how I learned about teamwork and how to persevere. During the summer of 2014, when I was 14 years old, I …show more content…
It taught me teamwork and perseverance. What I learned about teamwork with others is that it requires much patience. It is hard to have to steer a canoe knowing that the partner in the front must paddle just as hard to keep the canoe moving. Therefore, I had to be patient and work with Amanda to make sure the canoe did not turn around or flip over. I also learned that I need to keep pushing through in life to have a good outcome. If I were to have given up half way through the trip, I would not have gotten home. There are times in life when we must keep pushing through to get things done, even though we may not want to. Overall, this trip taught me about myself and that I must work hard, but have fun at the same time. I must always possess a good attitude to get things done in the best honest way. Just like Santiago, and how he completed his journey to find the treasure, I pursued and obtained my treasure. Ultimately, I am so blessed to have made the decision to go on the trip because it was the beginning of a giant life lesson- those who persevere are "diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed" (Coelho

In my life it is not necessarily experiences that have shaped who I am, but instead the people whom I have met during those experiences along the way. When I was younger I played soccer frequently and joined a local team that was coached by a man named Joe Di Lillo. At the time I did not know the importance he would hold in my life or how having known him in his last years of life would change me, yet looking back I find that so much of my self determination is rooted in both his life experiences and the knowledge he handed down to me. Joe was Bon in 1933 in he city of Roman, thirty miles from Naples. Born into a poor family Mr. Di Lillo did not have the opportunity to have an education and his family believed it was more important for him…

It showed me that there was much much more to see and to explore in the world, even if it seems like it’s all the same. Sure, you can say that a beach is a beach or every place has that, but a beach in California isn’t going to be the same as a beach in Florida or a beach in Brazil. It may not have white sand and sapphire waters, but the beach in Charleston will always be my first beach. The storms I experienced in Charleston will always be the origin point of my interest in bizarre weather. Charleston certainly isn’t New York or Los Angeles by any means of comparison, but it’s a place that gave me something more to see than the standard Midwest visuals I’m accustomed…

Why Do I as an individual want to be apart of this upcoming spain trip? The reason being is because I would like to study abroad just like how college students do. To be able to use what I have learned in all of those hours of classroom work, studying, and test taking, and to finally put it to some use. A Lot of things I do in schools only stay in school and it’s nothing anyone can really apply to their daily lives. Going on this trip to me is a huge opportunity to use my skills of spanish speaking and to figure out what it’s really like being able to speak full spanish in a country like Spain.…

Segment one of The Reason Series exposed me to the reality that everyone sees God and science in different ways. It reminded me that there will be people in the world that tell you to choose between God and science. That is not the case. You do not need to choose one or the other. People try to disprove the existence of God all the time.…

My experience in the passport project has shaped my understanding of learning and creativity by helping me to have insight into myself and my learning, to learn to overcome challenges, to set goals to reach certain targets, to think ahead to the future, to research efficiently and to find people and artists that inspire me. All of these things have greatly benefited me over the term and a bit that we completed our project because of the impacts that it has on me in my everyday life. I am finding that I am becoming more organised and willing to learn on my own accord rather than by being told exactly what to do by a teacher because of this project because I feel like I have been trusted to work well and responsibly. I enjoy this style of learning immensely because it gives me the freedom to work in a way that suites me whilst helping to shape my understanding of learning and creativity. Over the duration of our project, I have gradually gained more of an insight into myself and my learning.…

The topic of depression is still taboo in our society. It’s always a topic that most people rather stay in the dark about then actually learn and recognize how people may actually think. I believe you can still be successful, and do things that most people do if you put your mind to it. All you have to do is find someone or something to help motivate you. For example, when I was younger I was diagnosed with depression.…
