In the 60s teachers back then if they caught you doing something bad they would have you put your hands on the desk and they would hit your fingers with the wooden rulers, Debbie Zarate said. In the 60s the punishments the teachers would give you were really strict when you were bad, and they were really scary to the students because they wouldn’t want to get hurt. In the 1960s, students could receive a number of swats from a principal or teacher, depending on the severity of the infraction. Staying inside during recess, staying after school, writing lines on paper or the blackboard, or standing in a corner were also common punishments. In the 60s the teachers were really strict they did more punishments in the 60s then they do now, now days they would get lunch detention, or a refurl, suspended, or expelled. These and many other rules made school life a more difficult task in the 1960s. Kids only think they have it difficult in American schools today. Students today think that school rules are difficult today but it was way worse in the 60s. Isn’t it amazing that the differences between the dress codes and punishments from 60s compared to today they were strict in the 60s an example is that they use a paddle or a stick to hit you with if you were bad but now days they don’t do that because that is considered child abuse. Because I think it’s important to me to talk about the girls school dress code
