The 1950’s was a very big decade for America in many different aspects. Even entertainment has been important, including sports such as football, baseball, and basketball. Sports have been around for a very long time and the 1950’s was a very big decade for the development of sports. Sports have allowed communities to come together and have given kids role models to look up to. In the 1950’s everyone was very close and people would play with their neighbors and they usually played sports and that’s why sports is such a big deal. Along with the growing success of the NFL they also had to revamp all their gear and safety precautions. In 1950 the NFL introduced a new type of helmet to try to reduce the amount of head injuries and in 1955 they came up with the face mask which is intended to reduce the amount of broken jaws, teeth, and noses. The facemask was soon used as a disadvantage; people would yank the facemasks so the NFL ended up making rules against grabbing the mask so they can keep people safer. Before the 1950’s shoulder pads were hardly ever used but they became mandatory in the 1950’s and that applies up until now. As you can tell the 1950’s left a big dent in the sports safety field, if it weren’t for the 1950s the USA would be so far behind in most sports, the 50s was one of the biggest developing times for the NFL. Although the NFL made many moves and changes in the 50s, the MLB also made some changes. The 1950’s was the time were a lot of African Americans began joining the league. Yes, Jackie Robinson joined the league in the 40’s but the majority of black players started rolling in, in the 50s. Not many people were too happy about the change and allowing blacks to play all over the league, sometimes it actually lead to fights and riots in the stadiums. The MLB had quite of few teams and the biggest fans reigned from New York and that’s even
