The invention of the automobile changed the lives of many Americans in the 1920’s. Automobiles weren’t invented in the 1920’s, but this is when they became available to more people, and the automobile business was booming. Before this invention, people both lived in the city and worked in the city, or lived in the country and worked on a farm (The History of the Automobile). Because of the invention of the automobile, it made it easier to travel, and the suburbs grew making it possible for someone to live on the outside of the city and be able to work in the city. New jobs were introduced due to the impact of the automobile, such as fast food, city/highway construction, state patrol/police, gas stations, auto repair shops and much more. This allowed for more employment to many more people. The automobile also gave teens a lot of freedom. They could go into the city with their friends, and they didn't have to have parental supervision (The Invention). People went out more to the movies and enjoyed music and spending time with one another. In this time many Americans had adopted a totally new lifestyle. They wanted to go out and have fun with their friends, and since they most people had cars, people from all over could travel to the city. In the city there were also shorter work hours, which brought in a lot of business because everyone wanted strived for shorter work hours. This gave many people more time to relax or go out at night, and created a more stress free life for many Americans. Jazz music became very popular, and many teens and adults went to dance clubs and enjoyed this new type of music. Jazz music started a cultural movement in the twenties. It affected how people dressed, talked, and the attitude of teens. For some people jazz music was considered the “devil's music” because it created a new rebellious society, that some people loved, while others hated (Music In). Movies and films became very popular at this time, so popular that many families went at least once a week. Movies also could inform people on what was going on in the rest of the world since so many people attended them. Today many people still have this same lifestyle. Cities are still seen as a place where businesses are booming, and where people go for fun. Music is a huge influence in many people's lives as well.
