To become more self sufficient Hitler made German industries produce synthetic rubber, which, had been accidentally created in1922 by trying to create antifreeze. During World War Two there was a shortage of rubber in America so any rubber had to be given to the military and war industries. The longer the war went on the more America started using the synthetic rubber. A tree in Brazil created the latex rubber that was used in many things, however, with everyone wanting that new material it became scarce to obtain. The trees were planted in Malaysia to continue the production for the Allies. Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor took control of Malaysia and Singapore, thus, gaining all the rubber plants there and the major rubber production industry. Synthetic rubber was made from petroleum from the products of oil refining, specifically, the chemicals butadiene and styrene. By adding different amounts of other elements, like carbon, the rubber would be harder and stuck together more or not. There were many advancements in the medical field, such as, blood transfusions and immunization shots. The new pesticides that were made also helped keep the bugs from infecting the soldiers with diseases. Many new types of bombs were created, for example, demolition bombs. These types of bombs were used for destroying buildings and other types of structures.
