The Monster
In the famous novel Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley, a young man known as Victor Frankenstein creates a gruesome monster. Due to the fame of the novel the monster in question is one of the most famous characters around the world. The monster is referred to as cruel, unkind and horrid. However, after reading the novel many people feel sympathy for the creature. In the monster’s defense, it was never his choice to be animated so inhumanly by the hands of Victor. Soon Victor became obsessed with the idea of reanimation, to test his theories he decided to create something of his own. This is when the monster was brought to life, soon after creating the wretch Victor immediately turned from his work, banishing him for being so horrid. The Wretch himself at the time of his creation was as innocent as a child. However, when Victor disowned his creation, the monster had no guiding hand or understanding of the world he is now part of. It was not until after the monster had educated himself on the world and the people around him that he realized he was truly a monster. The monster was banished from the human world making him an outcast. All the monster sought was a companion, but Victor declined. The monster never wanted to cause harm, however, in order to punish Victor for his wrongdoing, the monster decided to take away the people Victor cared about the most. Although the monster does not overcome his differences in an appropriate way he does come to terms with the life he was given and isolates himself from humanity.
