Pi And Richard Parker Character Analysis

Life is filled with an inner battle. Pi is stranded and put in a life or death situation. He must fight to survive and do whatever it takes. Pi works at the Yang. The first story he wants us to believe that he is still good, and faithful. The yang side fights the yin side ,Richard Parker, and must subdue it to. Pi must live his life knowing what his yin did to survive. Pi must fight to keep his yin and yang balanced to stay alive. The yin yang or the real name "taijitu" is an ancient symbol from Chinese Taoism. The symbol represents everything having an opposite power of even strength that complement each other. There cannot be one side without the other. They must coexist and have constant tension at all times. One can never overcome the other. And they will both always be present no matter how much one seems to be present. It can be viewed as night and day, light and dark, and even hot and cold. They can never escape each other. Through his time at sea there is no way he could've survived sticking to his morals. He had to do whatever it took to stay alive. This is where the Richard Parker side of Pi came into play. Hi creates a different story masking is yin. Pi is ashamed of what he had to do to survive. But this side will always be inside him. Pi does his best to conceal this side of him. But after that survival he knows it's there. This side of him forces Pi to kill a man and eat him. It also causes Pi to kill and eat fish, the blind Frenchman, and the meerkats all of which are against his religion. All of the things he did or all things he has to live with.
