Many have argued if Florida schools should switch to year-round school. Florida should not switch to year-round school because it will make attending after school activities difficult and would make it harder, on parents who have to work over the time that their children are off from school. Year-round school would allow students and teachers to have more stretched out breaks instead of one long summer, that may lead to summer slide. Changing to year-round school would make everything harder so Florida should stick with traditional and not switch to year-round.

If Florida were to convert to year-round school, during the weeks the students are off, the parents will still have to go to work the usual nine to five shift, then for weeks at a time children would have to be left home alone all day long. For older kids, including high schoolers, that would not be that much of a problem. Younger kids, including elementary and even middle schoolers, staying home alone is not safe. Parents don’t want to have to pay for childcare while they are at work and the kids would be bored the whole break. Also, it is hard to find childcare every couple of weeks, making it harder on the parents to take care of their kids and have to work. Whereas the traditional schedule, parents and students are off on the same days so they don’t need to worry about t childcare or their children being home

The issue with this is that many districts have a shortage of school facilities, and they are limited to the amount of money they can spend on each of these facilities. To handle this issue, school districts around the world have adopted a year-round school calendar to ensure they are using these existing school facilities to their full ability. Year-round schooling arranges the breaks differently, causing students to be in school all throughout the year, rather than having three months off in the summer. In addition to maximizing the use of the schools, year-round schooling improves student learning and saves money in the long run.…

At the beginning of summer many families are getting ready for vacations, camping, and more, but if there is year round schools, then they will have to put off family traditions and vacations they have been doing for years or have been looking forward to for a while, so they have to get rid of all that just for year round schooling, which just started. This system allowed for more days within the learning period and allotted for students to get more out of their education. One obstacle would be the costs of year-round schools. Since the school, never officially has an off period, maintenance on the school buildings can be difficult. “Many argue that implementing year-round schooling would be too costly, as it would lead to increased spending on teacher and staff salaries…,” (O’Sullivan 411). Schools are already having to limit their spending and cut back on things that they don’t feel is necessary, but with the addition of these schools helping out in the long run on children’s education, then I think it's something that must be done. Another is that cities where tourism is high would not be in favor of this program due to the fact that less people would be vacationing during their peak months.…

This will allow children go to school the same amount of time, but they will retain more information because there is no summer break. Therefore, all of the schools in the United States should switch to a year-round schooling plan except for those in agricultural based towns. All young people experience learning losses when they do not engage in educational activities over the summer. For example an article from summerlearning.org states “Research spanning 100 years shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of the summer (White, 1906; Heyns, 1978; Entwisle & Alexander 1992; Cooper, 1996; Downey et al,…

Children benefit from year round school because they are not in a hurry to cram everything they need to know for that year in just short nine to ten months. Teachers can slow their speed and actually teach students everything they need to know not just what they need for a test, which seems to be regular in many schools. Students will not forget the education that was taught, for they will not have summer vacation time to forget about school and what they learned from it. Cooper had done experiments on children loosing education while on summer break and his results are stunning, and cooper commented that “most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months”…
