Pre-Assessment: The student will read the Susan B. Anthony article in one minute. The teacher will high-light each of the words that were incorrect in that one minute and add up how many words the student read correctly.
Motivation: The teacher will motivate the student by providing support and encouragement throughout the lesson. She will also highlight reasons as to why being a good reader is important.
Teacher Explanation: The teacher will first write down the words that are considered “vocabulary” words that are difficult to pronounce or understand. She will explain to the student the meaning of the words and how the words should be correctly pronounced …show more content…
At times it was difficult to keep the student’s attention. At one point during the lesson he tells me “Why do I have to learn this? This isn’t important. Video games and YouTube is important.” After hearing how the student thinks it made me realize that a lot of the reason he thinks this way is because he struggles with reading and with his class work. If you struggled you would be frustrated too. After that outburst I was able to get him back to work and he followed along just fine. I was happy that he was able to read more words correctly after I made him re-read the article a third time for the post assessment. Even he was happy to know that he read 15 more words than last time. This moment will always be a good memory for me because he went from feeling hopeless and angry to proud. It is important that students can see their learning achievements and see that they made their goals. I’m really enjoying my experience in this classroom and I’ll be sad when it
