Abstract
This essay discusses the increasing popularity of superheroes, reviews the history of superheroes, and answers the question many individuals have been asking, what makes these "superheroes so appealing including the history of superheroes, how they provide people a sense of safety, embrace diversity and team work and have cool costumes.
Up, Up, and Away
The recent popularity of DC comics’ movie “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has turned heads at the box office at a whopping $424.1 million its opening week. So what is a superhero? Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines as a fictional hero having extraordinary or superhuman powers; also: an exceptionally skillful or successful person (Superhero, n.d.).
The Important question to be answered is why are superheroes so appealing?

Oliver’s life wasn 't always easy. While on a cruise a drunken Oliver accidentally fell overboard only to be washed up on Starfish island. Oliver Queen is the epitome of rising up from our circumstances and moving towards a brighter future.
Vigilantes
In the world of superheroes another common themes is vigilantism. A vigilante is a member of society that wishes to stop crime and take justice into their own hands. Most people spectators believe these special individuals are all vigilantes. What drives these super powered individuals to bypass the law and the people who enforce it to keep the citizens of their city safe? Being a vigilante is important part but another element that makes superheroes so appealing is their costumes.
