A huge part of curing cancer in children is the St. Jude research hospital. St. Jude is a hospital that treats all children with cancer, free of charge. The hospital started with the vision of a man named Danny Thomas in February 4, 1962. He wanted to build something that would serve as a shrine for St. Jude. Danny wanted to provide care for every child no matter their race or financial situation. As the years progressed, St. Jude’s Hospital became more and more specialized in treating the disease. In 1960, cancer meant almost certain death, with a 20% survival rate. Here’s what is so concerning about the disease: According to CityofHope.org, over 100,000 children under 15 die from some kind of cancer each year. Imagine knowing that you only have a little while left to live. That’s not enough time to reach your goals, let alone say goodbye to the world. If this alone is not scary, take into account that cancer treatment isn’t free or inexpensive. It also puts a large emotional toll on the family, which, at worst, requires therapy. Therapy certainly isn’t free either. Thankfully, we won’t have to worry about these organizations being out of the picture, if, and only if, we continue to support
