Who thought that an owl could go silent in the presence of another owl? Well, that’s what we have heard recently. During some field observations, a few researchers suggested that Barred Owls are dominant to Spotted Owls in terms of behavior. To test the response of male and female Spotted Owls in the presence of Barred Owl calls, the researchers conducted an experiment at 10 different territories using conspecific calls (similar to the voice of Spotted owls) as a stimuli. They predicted that Spotted owls would hardly give any response to the conspecific calls in the area where Barred Owls are present in high numbers.…

Ferrets, similar to cats, are obligate carnivores (meat eaters). They can't survive without having meat in their diet. Although having fresh raw meat is part of the ferret's natural diet, it may include harmful parasites and microbes that create risks undesirable to pet owners. Only part of their diet is meat, because when predators eat their prey they eat not only the muscle meat but also liver, kidneys, and intestinal tract, and bones as well. If they were limited to just meat it would cause damaging and ultimately deadly dietary imbalances.…

Hunt for the Wilderpeople Film Taika Waititi ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ is about a young troubled adolescent boy, named Ricky. After years of being thrown around countless foster homes at the age of 13 years old, Ricky feels he has found himself a stable family environment. But with a disturbance in the family and his backyard being hundreds of miles worth of native bush, troubles arise and he finds himself running from authorities, as they are on a manhunt after suspecting Ricky has been kidnapped. Two main themes which stood out to me as a Maori viewer living between my two parents homes were how stereotypical barriers create an image for people in today’s society and how ‘family’ influence a child’s development growing up. I felt close to Ricky as he is the perfect portrayal of a young Maori boy..…
