The legal document of the IEP states and list the student’s accommodations, special education services, strengths, weakness, and the student’s goals. Mrs. Taylor needs to remember the development of the review of an IEP is highly important, and that her views and thoughts of her student’s goals and needs are listed in the legal document of the IEP, which is how her student will receive his/her special education services. I feel it is highly recommended that the student’s parents and guardians should be included in process of developing and reviewing their student’s IEP.…

There was one delivery on the unit, but unfortunately the mom was not receptive to having a student in the room.…

This would lead to the next step in which the teacher would have the special education specialist talk with the parent about what action can take place. The special education specialist and the general education teacher can talk with the parent about setting up an IEP. While setting this up the parents would constantly be communicated with by the teacher and others a part of the IEP team. It is important that the parent knows constantly what is going on and what is being done. The third step would to make sure that the parent is told about the progress their child is making in the general classroom and possibly a special education classroom.…

Once the parents of disabled children are discussed, Chapter 3 discusses how to create and maintain a professional connection with the parents. This sections includes tips dealing with how to properly communicate with the parents, which include tips that will make the parents feel comfortable, focused, and have a say in their child’s education. The issue of stereotyping can occur within educators when trying to contact and discuss with some of these parents, but educators must refrain from these biases because they will create barriers that can ruin another resource for the exceptional child. Chapter 3 also provides some advice for discussions with parents who are not willing to work with the educators, and the main suggestion is to hold dialogue instead of arguments. Dialogue focuses on sharing and explaining information, instead of harshly explaining reasons and opinions.…

It was as if the school was simply having these meeting because they were mandated by IDEA, not because they genuinely cared about what they were telling the parents. In reality, these meeting were completely unnecessary. Under the language alienation subheading, the article states how parents felt the information was basically being dictated at them. In most cases parents really had little to no opportunity to give much feedback or even communicate back with the teacher, in some cases this was contributed to their lack of understanding the English language. This is why the purpose of having a bilingual special-education teacher is to be able to communicate to parents in the language they are most comfortable in.…

The role of the student in the RTI change initiative was very limited. The pupils selected for intervention could not choose whether or not to take these classes. Though test scores were consulted, students, themselves, were not consulted during the planning or implementation of the initiative. Students were merely “potential beneficiaries of change” (Fullan, 2006, p. 170). As beneficiaries, these learners were only to be engaged as recipients of the remediation services being offered to them.…
