Is It Appropriate to Spank a Child? I think anyone can understand why this has been a hot topic for years now. Many people have doubts about spanking their child. Am I abusing my child when I spank them? Is my child going to resent me for this one day? What ages should I spank them if I do choose spanking as a parenting method? I think these are some of the questions that could run though parents head when spanking a child. Growing up I was popped on my butt a couple of times, but only when I did something really bad. I think my parents did this because it showed me the severity of what I did. I also never really remember getting spanked hard either. This is why I think it would be harder on the parent. That parent is always going to remember spanking their child, but that child will forget about it within 30 minutes. If I was a parent, I would hate punishing my kid. But according to The University of New Hampshire, “Research shows that spanking corrects misbehavior. But it also shows that spanking does not work better than other modes of correction, such as time out, explaining, and depriving a child of privileges.” This is exactly what I’m talking about.
