Essay On Sociology Tutoring

In the magazine chosen I was asked to perform research related to sociology. My topic that I will be researching is the results of sociology grades when students have had tutoring. The data that is needed is to determine what will work for the student to succeed in their course with a passing grade. Research has shown that without academic help, like tutoring, most students are at risk for not passing their courses. There are many different types of tutoring that students can engage in to get the help they need in order to succeed. There is self-determined tutoring, peer tutoring, group tutoring, one-on-one tutoring, professional tutoring, etc. This research study came from a cognitive learning theory for students to be able to take the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses of the course work provided. The hypothesis that I’ve chosen for my research topic is “the greater the availability of sociology tutoring, the higher the grades.” The data that will have to be used is quantitative because this …show more content…
At this point, I need to decide how to measure the variables. In my research study they are asking how tutoring would improve student’s grades. For instance, one researcher might define good grades as a C or better, while another researcher defines a B+ as a starting point for good. Or perhaps one researcher might only want to use one method of tutoring that they have seen works the best while another researcher may totally be against that idea and likes another method better. The results of this test determined whether or not which tutoring was in effect for the students. The test results happened to show a significant difference between the grades of the students who had self-determined tutoring compared to those who had one-on-one
