As you are well aware the world is strikingly different and has evolved through constant change. The same may be stated for the military and social media, when I first entered military service in 1977 our social media was personal interaction, slow-mail and phone conversations. Now we acknowledge various mediums that we may use to communicate or keep in touch with family, friends and so forth.
The military acknowledges the fact that social media is an intricate part of our culture, social-media benefits the military in a variety of ways from recruiting, and highlighting each individual branch with reports/stories of who they are and what they are accomplishing on home station or around the world, or as a morale boost keeping families separated by long distances in touch. Therefore, there are wide ranging benefits, but additionally social-media is utilized as a mechanism for various governments to conduct any the following operations:
Cyber espionage: Cyber espionage through social media (facts, statistics, and technologies) is essentially based on data mining through the linked networks of contacts. The use of social media can be useful for cyber espionage and cyber intelligence in the preparation stage for

Additionally we understand that social media may be utilized in various forms and that security will always be an issue. There are applicable rules and regulation that highlight the importance of deviating from the outlined standards. However, being human we also understand that individuals may follow their own individual course of actions. A key word that gets thrown around allot is professionalism, social media is a part of our lives, therefore in either a military or non-military environment personal conduct should also be a guide when dealing with social media, in other words don’t compromise
