Listed in the top ten most dangerous sports, soccer is at number six, and football number three. Although people may assume that soccer isn’t dangerous, many injuries occur during both soccer and football. Many other injuries can occur, including Much of the population also believes that soccer is non-contact sport and that football is the most dangerous. The truth is, soccer and football can both result in severe injuries. According to Sports Injuries Statistics, annually, 3.5 million children 14 or younger get hurt playing sports. 62% of those injuries occur during practice. The thought that keeps parents wondering is if they should let their children play sports like football, but many parents won't even let their children play soccer because of the risks of injuries.. Concussions and sprains are the most common of soccer injuries. Collisions cause most of these injuries, but many were asking if heading the ball can cause long term brain damage. This caused Dr. Echemendia to do a study on this topic. Most injuries in football consists of concussions, sprains, and other soft tissue injuries. Thanks to all of these injuries, football was ranked third in 2011 for most dangerous sports. Football isn’t the worst sport you could play. Although players kick, tackle, push, and block, the players aren't consistently playing the game, there are many whistles blown that give the team a break. Therefore football is more dangerous that more sports. According to the SAFE KIDS CAMPAIGN and the American Academy of Pediatrics, most football injuries are caused by collisions.
