Sloths Sloths are medium sized animals. Two toed sloths have only two fingers and three toed sloths actually have three toes. Sloths are part of the order Pilosa so they are related to anteaters and armadillos. Sloths are tree dwelling animals, they are found in the jungles of Central and South America. A sloths scientific name is Folivora. A brown throated sloth usually sleeps for around 15 to 18 hours. A pale throated sloths gestation period is 183 days. A brown throated sloth weighs around 5 to 14 pounds. A pale throated sloth weighs around 8.4 to 14 pounds. A maned sloth weighs around 9.9 to 22 pounds. Sloths are very slow moving animals. Algae grows on a sloths fur and that is what makes them camouflaged. A sloths diet consists mostly of leaves which gives them minimal energy and nutrition. A sloths primary predators are eagles, snakes, and jaguars. Sloths can retain their grip after their death. Three toed can turn their head almost 360 degrees. If you are in a rain forest when it is daytime then you may not see any sloths because sloths are nocturnal animals. Sloths have up to four inch long claws used to hold onto tree branches. Female sloths are pregnant for up to 7 to 10 months and will only give birth to one baby. Sloths can live up to only 40 years old. There are two types of two toed sloths and two types of three toed sloths which makes six kinds of sloths. A sloth has a four- part stomach that very slowly digests the tough leaves that they eat, it can take a month to digest a meal. Digesting this diet means that a sloth has very little energy left to move around making it one of the slowest moving animals in the world. A lot of animals act the same and have the same diet, but I don’t think you can compare a sloth with another animal because they are so different and
