What is trust? In Sir Dalton and the Shadow Heart, it is a case of believing in the Prince and not doubting. If Sir Dalton had let the seed of doubt continue to grow, without Mr Sejus leading him back to the right path and killing the seed of doubt, he would still be cowering in a dark prison cell. However he overcame doubt and fear, gained his trust in the Prince, conquered Lord Drox, and freed the prisoners from their pit of darkness and despair, all because he trusted in the code and the Prince.
In the beginning of the book we see Dalton going with the flow, but he is being worked on by Drox who is slowly destroying his trust in the Prince and the Code with the comments he makes to dalton like the boy at the well page 21 “the boy smirks and shook his head. “So you serve a guy in some fairy land who is dead. Only faith in Christ can set us free. If we don’t have trust in Christ, we will be locked away like Dalton in a prison. We have to be strong and keep trusting to break free. As Dalton is polishing the rusty old sword Mr Sejus gives him, he was also polishing his own spiritual life and seeing Mr Sejus for who he really was. He turned from an old prospector into a strong, powerful warrior.
