and Japes were the rookies to this game, and although they kept from passing out they had no clue how to play the exotic poker games continuously introduced. Shekelhound, like a hawk with his eye on all participants, made certain the pot remained properly anted and that everyone received the correct payout. He hated a cheater and he usually won the most money.

The front office, Japes forte and where he got his start in the business, was managed by a bunch of kids. Although All-in did the best he could to oversee this group it became painfully obvious to Japes that they left a lot of money on the table. Her story would be typical of every potentially talented young manager that Japes encountered during his tenure at the Crossroads. Like most good-looking twenty-year-olds Cleopatra courted a boyfriend who pursued her wherever she went. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances surrounding many of the servers in that community, even at her humble earnings she became the breadwinner. Inevitably, she got pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby out of wedlock. A well-known story rumored that her boyfriend, a drug dealer, placed her into compromising situations. She eventually would leave the partner, but engaged hotel resources in her subculture for many shakey transactions. The biggest pimp in the area constantly tried to get Cleopatra to join his stable. She never succumbed to his pursuit, but arrangements were made so that his existing stable could walk the halls and use the guest rooms for free. Never a pimp, she did, however, enable him to push twenty-dollar hookers throughout the hotel. A far cry from what Japes experienced thirty years ago when he started

The new client package should consist of a sampling of Jim’s Gyms’ services including initial body composition scan, and a free month of both nutrition and training services. The article, “Responding to Online Reviews: Problem Solving and Engagement in Hotels”, by Sun-Young Park and Jonathan P. Allen addresses hotel responses to Internet comments and how such reaction affect customer perceptions. It demonstrated that responses to reviews varied significantly by hotel, but by responding positively, hotels build customer relations. I selected this topic and article because I have a passion for the hotel industry and research shows that hotel response to online comments affect revenues (Vermeulen and Seegers, 2009, p. 123), thus this would help me make informed business decisions in the future. Out of the many articles on the topic, I chose this one because it included four case studies each with a slightly different philosophy, is peer reviewed, was published within the last five years, and referenced multiple other peer reviewed sources, therefore I felt that it was the most balanced, accurate, and well vested of the articles I have seen. Through a literature review of peer-reviewed research on consumer’s perspectives of hotel responses, or lack of responses, to comments and the value of addressing comments, along with interviews and a comparative case study research model, the journal compared two hotels that actively responded to online comments with two that did not.…
