Even though Marilyn had become an outstanding rile model during her long twenty-one hour trek across Lake Ontario, she still has some flaws to her character. Marilyn’s journey began during the ticket-tape parade held for her inspiration, Barbara Ann Scott, following her victory for the figure skating World and Olympic Championships which gave Marilyn the needed determination to fulfill her future role model status. She eventually gave up on a Olympic swimming dream, even with the intense training held by Gus which diminishes her eligibility as a good role model. She never did anything for herself. Sharon has heart and willpower, she keeps moving forward even though she knew the consequences of leaving her partner, while Marilyn doubts herself the whole way through the swim. Marilyn had a support team as well during the race, however, Sharon only had herself and Dwayne, which makes Sharon additionally brave. Sharon was also more motivating. She made a huge step for women proving that you have no limitations, that you can do anything. While Marilyn was really just doing the race because someone told her to. Marilyn did not really learn anything during that trek that was important, but Sharon learned unbelievable lessons that very few learn in a lifetime. Considering the heat, willpower, bravery, motivation and lessons learned, she is the superior role
