Discrimination can be defined as the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things. A group of people who certainly feel the wrath of discrimination are the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual community. The oppression and unequal treatment that they have struggled with over the years has negatively impacted their well-being. The LGB community is left with, feelings of anxiety, depression, disorders related to substance abuse, and other more severe mental disorders. Some of these benefits include: Receiving spouse’s health insurance, filing income taxes together, social security benefits, having rights over medical decisions and, many other marital benefits. Suffering this unequal treatment cause’s distress which turns into mental illnesses such as depression, generalized anxiety and other mental disorders.
