Title: “What is sense of place and why is it important?”
Johnny Places are crucial for human beings because they play a role as our shelters and they can be used for different purposes; for example, a destination for relaxation or a workplace and possibly something in which we can enjoy living. Thus, there has been a phenomenon about this and it is called sense of place. Sense of place has existed since the early days of human history, yet it has always seemed to be controversial when people talk about the meaning of it. Therefore, the definition of sense of place is still to be found. Although the term has been defined differently by different people, scientists have pointed out two factors that we use to talk about places, namely geographic traits of the place and human’s perceptions about the places. Hence, it is necessary to consider how to create a place that can be appealing to the community within it. For instance, having more open spaces such as parks that offer greenery, amenities like airports, and developing more options of public transportations; all of these have to be put into consideration in order to achieve the ultimate goal of creating an ideal sense of place for anyone who stays there (State of Washington, 2012). To conclude, sense of place may not be precisely defined even though there seems to have a prevailing concept of this term that sense of place, in other words, simply means the link between local community and the place they live in, rather than the geographic traits the place has.
