Essay On School Board Reading

Dear President of the School Board, Reading is fundamental. It is one of the most important factors in life. There are many adults in the world who don't even know how to read the instructions on a medicine jar. There is a difference though. Students have so many more opportunities now to have a free education, than adults back then. Back then it was hard to get an education, the only thing that mattered was work and money. Now that many of us have the opportunity you can't just let it go. You have to take advantage, you may not like reading but you just have to find something that interests you. The only way to make reading fun is by reading about something that doesn't bore you.
Reading makes the time stop, you go on an adventure that may have never been possible to go on in real life. It's an escape out of the real world. You just have to find the book that is right for you. Let's say you are into video games, well why not find a book that says all the cheats and tricks to it. It gets you to read, and it will help you on something you love to do. Maybe you like playing sports? You can always find a book, teen fiction for example. Teen fiction could be someone that enjoys doing the same sport you enioy and face the same problems that you may be facing. But eventually, the character will find how to solve the problem, and will inspire you to do the same.

Video game's make you dumb, increases bad attitudes, and makes your eyes really weak. Everyone wants to get somewhere in life. They don't want to work at McDonald's flipping burgers. Students want money, and in order to get that money you must stop playing video games. You are so obsessed with them, that you don't even realize how much damage you are doing to your

In the article, Reading Literature Makes us Smarter and Nicer, by Annie Murphy Paul, it states the two opposing sides or the ongoing debate, Does Reading Literature Make Us Smarter Better People? Annie gives us both sides of the argument, and shows an extensive amount of research to back us her opinion. I believe that reading strengthens your mind, and help you view life in multiple perspectives, allowing me and everyone else to become better individuals. I personally don’t like reading so much, and I’m not the only one, some people are just not made for reading, but once in awhile I find a book that I really love, and can’t put down. In the article, Annie states that people who read fiction, “appear to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the world from their perspective,” I’ve came across a book like that once, and I loved it.…

Even if it's short stories, or just articles on the internet, it is something good for the brain, and would help tremendously, and help you grow as a reader. I sit down and start to think about what it would be like if we did not have the ability to read. It also makes me think about how important reading is to us. Personal Literacy Statement for Shannon Brasher While I don’t remember learning to read as a child, I do remember being forced to read books that I had no interest in. Not only was this not enjoyable as I was not interested in the book, often times they were considered old classics like Shakespeare which were hard for me to comprehend what I was reading. This lead not only to frustration but I would quit reading the book which caused me to miss out on whatever the teacher was trying to teach. As a teacher I would strive to promote a love of reading in my students by allowing them to choose what they read from a selection of books.…

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one" - George R.R Martin, A Dance with Dragons. Humans are such sensitive beings and it is very difficult to understand how people have become impassive to experiences nowadays. It is almost as if they believe that being unsusceptible is a quality that one should possess in today’s world. I speak this because nowadays importance is being given to things like technology and partying etcetera which is good to an extent but due to this books, novels, poems, literature and art are taking a backseat.…

In Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag transitions from being another shallow citizen to someone who knows how to think, someone who acknowledges the world around them and doesn’t live in denial. In the real world, in a society where reading is valued, we read for leisure or for a school assignment or because somebody told us to, but we still read to gain knowledge, and to expand our minds and become deeper and/or better…

In the quote by Christopher Columbus he states “By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination” I thought this quote pertained to me because I know this year there are going to be many obstacles in English class, but if I just push myself I know I can reach my goal. As a reader and writer, I believe that I have grown stronger over the years. In the past, I did not like reading at all I would try to get by with reading as little of the stories as possible in order to pass. I felt this way until this summer when I started to read the books for English.…

Whether it be a Goosebumps books or Mark Twain books you 'll go anywhere it leads you, but once I got into middle school and high school the books weren 't like that anymore. School books do have plenty of information in them, but they’re uninteresting to read. Not too many people want to get lost in a book about photosynthesis, they would much rather read a story about action and adventure. I do feel like reading the informational books for studies and homework did help when I would read them to finish my school work, but thats only if I could make myself read through them. Usually I would just skim through the book rather than read it word for word to get the main idea.…

Literature enthralls me, and by the power that the words have on one’s imagination and emotions. Literature captivates the potential to evoke one’s imagination and inspire creativity in anyone who starts to breathe in the precious words. Maya Angelou has the perfect quote to summarize how I feel about the power of literature and reading, “When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature.…

Reading Memoir John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, stated,” Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood.” Actually, reading books helps me to explore the world. When I was just a little girl, I loved reading fairy tales which brought me to many vicarious thrilling adventures, and when growing up, non-fiction books taught me how to become a good person. Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Some stories not only make me feel euphoric with happy endings, but they also make me feel despondent when a character’s deep sorrow touched my heart.…
