Rotary Telephone Education

As a perspective teacher I find my self entering a profession that is the state of transition. The education system that I once knew is about as cutting edge as a rotary telephone. While some may believe that their rotary telephone has always got the job done and if it ain 't broke why fix it? The truth is that education system of yesteryear is not going to cut it. In fact it hasn 't cut it for quite awhile. Another truth is that the education system that is currently in place is already behind. I would compare it to a cordless phone. The hardest truth is that tomorrows education is probably comparable to a first generation I phone. There is an enormous need to equip our students with the tools needed to be successful in their not so distant …show more content…
Our education system has upped the ante with the implementation of the Common Core standards. Andrew Miller an educational consultant who trains teachers on technology with Common Core standards says, "If Students are going to be able to meet these challenging standards, classrooms should immediately begin using technology"(Huseman). The truth is that technology has taken over the world. We use technology is every single capacity our lives. Technology has made the world more efficient, capable, and productive. Isn 't it time we made our education system as well? I would like to use one of my personal experiences as an example. I first used a computer as 2nd grader. Our computer time in school consisted of floppy disk and Oregon trail. I wasn 't particularly bright and I struggled to read. There were probably many contributing factors that contributed to my lack of success in the my time in the general public education system. I can tell you that one of them was that I didn 't like school. I was not engaged. When I went to school the teacher taught and we listened. My teachers did their best to educate an entire classroom. The lack of …show more content…
I believe that this skill that can never be mastered. Technology is continuously changing and evolving. With the use of technology not only is society changing but so our the students we teach. A perfect example of this is my favorite student. My daughter who 's only 3 years old knows how to navigate phone aps and has her own tablet. Some will say that, "She shouldn 't be looking at a tablet screen!" I would like to explain to these people that technology can be used to teach in ways that I as a father and a teacher simply cannot do. She is so engaged in learning that she doesn 't know she is doing "work". Fun and interactive learning programs are more engaging then dad is. For example, she know 's here ABC 's, can count to 30, and is starting to learn simple words in Spanish. She has already learned things prior to pre-school that I was working on in the first grade. My oldest daughter who 's entering 1st grade probably know 's more about technology then I did entering middle school. The role of a teacher and as a parent has changed. I am not saying that we place our students in front of the computer all day. There are some downfalls to technology. Some believe that there are risk factors associated with the digital world. Some believe that technology use is addictive and has gone to far. It is in my belief is that when technology is used in unison with

It may be argued that technology dominates modern society and now plays an integral part in everyday life (Aduwa-Ogiegbaen and Iyamu, 2005; Cennamo, Ertmer, and Ross, 2013; Stafford, 2010). Technological advancements and increasing access to technology within the home is enabling children to develop a growing array of digital skills, knowledge, and understanding from an early age (Medcalfe, 2013; Cennamo, Ertmer, and Ross, 2013). Children must now become computer literate in order to access the wealth of available information and also to adequately prepare them to fully interact with the modern world (Tucker, 2014; Simpson, 2013). Technology provides many opportunities for flexible, adaptable learning and is an approach which has been widely…

As teachers we have to equip our students to live in this kind of world. According to Sousa, “…children who spend their early years in front of screens will eventually have adult brains that are hardwired to process information at a frantic pace” (Sousa, 679). Technology has many positive aspects, but often gets a bad rap. According to Wedlock & Growe, “The problem is that technological innovations need to be transformed from tools of obsession into tools of education”…

The topics of education and technology have always been a center of debate all over the world. These might seem like two separate topics, but the more technology evolves and advances, the more of an impact it has on education, or to be precise the schooling system. Also, the more effect technology has on our education system and on our everyday lives, the more there’ll be critics that will bash the system we have today and try to bring out every negative impact it has on us. I am very opposed to those types of people such as Ken Robinson and his talk “Changing Education Paradigms,” Neil Postman and his “Of Luddites, Learning, and Life,” and Annie Lowrey’s “The Gap between schooling and education.” I think technology has had mostly positive…

“Our children’s digital lives are turning them into much different creatures from us and not necessarily for the better” (Hatch, 2011). Children are geniuses when it comes to using different types of technology because they are constantly on it. The good thing about using technology is children are learning more and improving their cognitive skills. The negative effect technology has on younger children is the harm that can affect their developmental skills in the future. Without limitations it will create harm to their developmental skills such as inhibiting social interaction with others, behavior problems, and leading to health issues.…

Based on my personal experience with the public education system, I would say that the role of technology should stay about where it is currently at. I personally have never found that technology really took up a large portion of the classroom. Other than the use of the smart boards to display notes and show the occasional video, I have never found that the amount of technology was super over whelming in school. However, that is not to say that we need to see more technology integrated into the public education system. While there may be enough technology provided by the school, the problem comes into play when you realize that most students have cell phones that they use constantly throughout the school day.…

Students’ education has changed over the years and the reason for it is technology. For hundreds of years teachers have used books, paper, and pencils to teach their students, but for the last few years technology has become part of everyone’s life in one way or another. Students and teachers are getting their technology through the classroom and it has impacted student learning. Technology has positively impacted student learning because they have more motivation, self-esteem, are completing complex tasks and help others more, while it has the negative impact of poor work and shorter attention span to tasks. One way is that technology has increased students’ motivation to learn and their self-esteem in what they learned.…

Meredith also incorporated technology very frequently in her lessons. She had students make mind maps on chrome books as well as type up story they wrote. When she would have one small group and the rest of the class would be working on other work she had spelling activities to be done on different learning apps on an iPad. I think this helps with keeping the children attentive in the classroom. This school is very technology savvy in their classrooms.…

For years, technology has molded our thinking, actions, and lives. Technology is a tool that never stops advancing as it grows with us. Many people use technology and its tools to help educate themselves and others in the workplace, home, and other various environments. So quite naturally, when school board officials and educators proposed that this technology should be incorporated into the school system many were eager to start the process. However, technology should not be integrated into the schools system because it creates problems such as academic dishonesty, possible layoffs, and technological malfunctions.…
