Tuesday, January 17, 2017, in Topeka, Kansas, Andrew Franklin Green, a 16 year old junior in high school, was driving to Seaman High School that morning on N.W. 46th street. Not wearing his seat belt, Andrew drove his car into the left lane straight into the head of an immense, white, pickup truck, killing himself. There was no attempt to evade contact with the truck by braking or driving back into his own lane. Still at the scene of the accident, Andrew was confirmed dead at 7:50 a.m. The source of the death was blunt head trauma injuries, declared by the Shawnee County coroner. However, according to Tim Hrenchir from CJOnline, there were various suicide notes written that morning by Andrew. Calmed by Andrew’s letter, his sister, Emily, specified …show more content…
While Green was pronounced dead on the scene, the pickup truck’s driver endured slight injuries and did not demand hospitalization.
The crash took place at N.W. 46th Street and Camden Lane. There were numerous witnesses to this accident as the road was hectic that morning with adults driving to work and students driving to school. Thinking nothing of the crash, and not being sure of what to do as a witness, I proceeded to school. In the middle of my first class, I officially found out that the crash was fatal to a fellow Seaman High School student. This is one of many student deaths that the Seaman High School community has seen over the years. Once again, our community mourned the loss of a fellow student; yet through it all, we continue to remain

On a beautiful clear morning of February the 19th, my mom picked me up from my class at the University of West Georgia, then we went to Waffle House to have a nice breakfast. We left from Waffle House, proceeding down Maple Street, and turned onto South Street and immediately onto Kenner Street. We then turned onto on the merging lane on South Park Street (US Hwy 27) heading south, we immediately halted to a full stop as vehicles moved from the middle lane into the merging lane in front of us, but at that time there were no vehicles behind us. As we waited to enter traffic, a car suddenly struck us from behind which caused the car to jerk violently forward, causing my mother’s chest to hit the steering wheel, and our heads and bodies to whip forward and then back.…

It was useful for the Hartford Courant to show attention to the day of five deaths resulting from motor vehicle collisions; however, the phrasing used paints an inaccurate picture. These are not “accidents,” and to use that term is to grossly mislead readers. To get through life, it helps to believe that the majority of people are not malicious. The motorists involved in those deaths surely did not seek to harm others. Still, the word “accident” implies no fault, as if the act and outcome were fate.…

Suicide is argued to be a leading cause of death in the United States for several years. People on certain career paths are more susceptible to committing suicide and/or having suicidal ideation than others; law enforcement officers are members of one such group of people who are at high risk. There is an elevated rate of suicide among police officers, which is logical, as being a police officer is arguably one of the most dangerous jobs for one to have. This is said, as police officers’ lives and safety are in danger on a daily basis.
