Moreover, Goodall toured a medical research laboratory and realized that baby chimps located there were not allowed to interact with each other as they were contained in small boxes. Her encounter with a chimp hiding in the back of a box and rocking back and forth in its cage led her to advocate for labs where chimps could interact and be contained in larger cages if research was necessary. Jane not only noticed the maltreatment of laboratory chimps, she persisted in making her demands for improvement known. Her determination led researchers to comply to her suggestions even if they were not originally in support of the changes (Welty, "300 Days"). Goodall possessed a large array of knowledge regarding chimpanzee behavior from her individual studies, and she…

’s right? Make him a person” discusses about an organization called Association Against Animal Factories(AAAF)(4), which has adhered to similar standards as the Great Ape Project. This organization has been actively fighting and protesting for the protection of animals against the experimentation of unapproved products. Their motivation stems from the belief that animals are capable of suffering. For example, two chimpanzees, Hisal and Riso, were “captured as babies in Sierra Leone in 1982 and smuggled in a crate to Austria for use in pharmaceutical experiments”(8) conveys the notion that the cruelty of animal abuse is still apparent.…

Jane’s love for chimpanzees has started since she was seven/eight years old. She was encouraged by Louis Leakey to begin researching the chimpanzees. Her dream was to go to Africa and to chimpanzee’s behavior as closely possible. She didn’t have any degree or training, in other words, didn’t have any experience with jungle, chimpanzees and any other animals. She wasn’t at university and could not tell if chimpanzees have minds as human beings; some scientists argue.…

Every day, assaults, riots, rapes and murders are a fact of life in our nation’s prisons. In my opinion, sometimes our correctional system seems to cause more problems than assistance to the society. The system is very expensive, overcrowded, and inefficient in certain aspects. One of the problems The United States Correctional System faces today is prison violence. Violence is not random or mindless but steamed from identifiable conflicts between inmates that had escalated due to the lack of positive coping skills and could be avoided with more counseling accessibility.…
