The many problems in Rome caused it to cripple - the soft belly city, destroying faster and faster - and finally “vanishing” after laziness of Emperors and the Roman people. The Rome soldiers laid back, never wearing their armor anymore, because they thought it was too heavy, and so it caused a big downfall for Rome. In the book Concerning Military Matters, a Roman historian, Vegetius wrote, “...because of negligence and laziness, parade ground drills were abandoned, the customary armor began to seem heavy since the soldiers rarely ever wore it.” (Doc.B) The military of Rome never trained, practiced, or got stronger. They sat there doing nothing, not prepared for war. Because of this the soldiers never wore their armor, they were dying off quickly, invaders knew Rome’s military could be defeated easier. Rome also had a problem with the conscription: draft of the military. As stated, in the book of The Fall of the Roman Empire: A Reappraisal, Michael Grant recorded, “The exempted categories were...numerous.” Rome had a hard time finding people for the military.
