The change of rap music from the 90’s to the 00’s was a big change which caused a lot of people to turn away from rap. The music before was about people’s past like in one of 2Pac’s song, “Dear Mama”, he talks about his poor past and his single mother. This made the music have a purpose, an “art” to it but today’s music is always talking about sex, drugs, or women’s body parts like in Rae Sremmurd’s song “Throw Sum Mo”, the boys talk about throwing money at a girl’s butt. Due to its change, people don’t consider rap to be an art or have any art because of its words, affiliations and the artists. The music doesn’t contain purposeful words and most of the songs don’t have a very good meaning behind it. Art is supposed to inspire people and it allows people to express themselves. Yes, the artist are expressing themselves but in a negative way. So how is rap supposed to inspire people using profanity and gang violence as a base? Rap isn’t having a positive effect on communities or the U.S. and if it today’s rap stays like this it won’t help America
