Picture this, your only child just obtained his license two months ago, and he is on his way to school with a friend of his in the passenger seat. The music is blaring loudly, and as they sing along, your child slowly creeps off the side of the road. They realize and jerk the steering wheel left, but overcorrect right into oncoming traffic, and a head on collision. You are now childless. Everyday young drivers are tragically hurt or killed due to inexperience and distractions. By raising the legal driving age, there will be less teen driving accidents, less obese Americans, and less high school truancy. It is essential to have a raise in the legal driving age.

Many drivers eat and drink while they drive. In fact, according to Pasadena Law, 83 percent of drivers drink, and 70% of drivers eat while driving. With the new freedom young drivers have, many teens, like adults, eat or drink and drive. Not only is doing this very unsafe, and increasing the chance of a crash, but most of this food being eaten is fast food which is very unhealthy containing large amounts of processed ingredients, and high amounts of sugar, sodium, and fat. In addition, 20.6% of teens are obese (State of Childhood Obesity). Not only will the rates lower due to less fast food eaten by young drivers, but more teens will walk or ride a bike to travel places, also helping to make them healthier.
