Essay On Racism In Schools

Racism happens everywhere we go. As much as we want it to stop, racism will always be here, because that is how society works. So we asked ourselves, do people's assumptions based on your race, ethnicity, and nationality contribute conflicts in our school? Racism is, opinions, assumptions, or actions towards a person/group based on the beliefs of their race. It involves making negative comments or jokes about a specific group, calling people racist terms, and physically bullying people because of their race. The four races we are using and the ones we think are targeted the most are Black, Mexican, White and Asian. Any and every race have their own stereotypes such as: Muslims are terrorists, Blacks love fried chicken, Whites drink Starbucks, Asians eat dogs, etc. For our project, we want to figure out if racism causes conflict in our school. When children go to school and are picked on because of their race, most likely they become afraid of going to school, have trouble concentrating in class, stay away from school, feel anxious and unhappy, and etc. This doesn’t just affect the …show more content…
Everyone knows race is a biological category, but socially everyone seems to put themselves in their own category. Many different things are said about African Americans such as, black kids from K-12 are far more likely to be suspended than white children. Black students make up almost 40% of all school expulsions and more than two thirds of students referred to police from schools are mostly black. According to the U.S News on racism, African American children are 18 times sentenced than white children. These kind of things said, show that many assumptions are made about Blacks.
