There was an interview asking the murderer why he killed the man. The murderer alleged that his victim’s skin colour provoked him to carry out this atrocious act – it disgusts me that people can do such aggressive, violent and brutal deeds. We should put a stop to this epidemic before it ruins more lives.
Racism is a problem that has inflicted hatred within our society for thousands of years. Prejudice against black people has been presented in books for centuries. In Steinbeck’s novel ‘Of Mice and Men’ there is one character that is victimised because of his skin colour; his name is Crooks. He works on the ranch as a “stable buck” and even though he is a good man who works hard he still has no respect. He was a victim of the same racism that still exists today and which has consumed hundreds of lives.
This issue of racism is also shown in the movie ‘12 Years a Slave’, where a dark skinned man is lynched because of his skin colour. Set in America during the late 1800s, this film presents the life of black people that were the victims of slavery.
