Many causes of racism are prevalent; two main contributing factors examined and debated by leading experts include the aspects poverty and ignorance. Both intertwine to promote unrest. One proposition: Better access to educational opportunities for our young people. Ignorance raises fears. Fear of diversity and cultural differences often result in racist viewpoints. By providing better information through social media and government supported programs, better education can lead to an advanced understanding of all levels of society. No longer do individuals believe they cannot improve their station in life. With proper knowledge and education the sky is the limit. Government educational grants go a long way to eradicating the ignorant from our ranks. Motivation to apply for these grants is another story. Peer pressure to succeed can be a positive force to motivate those less fortunate to work hard towards a better life. The media has a social obligation to “get the word out there”. The means are there and opportunities are increasing. At least today a person has a better chance at achieving a better life by applying for government-funded monies to obtain a higher education as compared to just 10 years ago. Credit the federal administration, state sponsored grants and local outreach programs, which go a long way toward improving conditions around neighborhoods, schools and
