Racial profiling, police brutality, mass shootings, gun violence, all of these are problems plague America, but not my view for the future. My vision for America is free of racial tension and inequality You may question my optimism but, let me tell you a story, a story about progress and persistence. America has recently experienced problems with racial tension. Looking back to 1776 when our great nation was just a young infant trying to take her first steps, her members owned slaves. There is no kind way to put this, the people who built the strong foundation our nation rests on owned slaves. At the time their goal was to create a nation that was equal to all men, yet they did not even take into account the slaves that they had in their possession. Our …show more content…
Our nation was divided into north and south, free and slave states. That is when a man came along with a revolutionary idea, he wished to reunite the separated nation and free the slaves. This brave and courageous man was Abraham Lincoln, he once said “ America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves”(Lincoln). Lincoln had very few options to solve the problems he faced as the 16th president of the United states of America, although it was not very untied at the time. This is when a war started between a once united nation, it shook the very foundation that protects the freedom and liberty that is promised to all those who migrate here for safety from oppression. Many lives were lost but, not in vain, these lives were taken to not weaken the bond between the north and south but, but it strengthened us and forever ingrained that event into the minds of those of the time. It also ingrained this tragic event into the minds of every single one of us who calls this nation home. We overcome this hardship and continue on our journey to racial
