Even though the foundation of our nation’s society is based upon equality, discrimination has been and continues to be seen throughout history. One of the most common and known forms of discrimination is racial. Racial discrimination involves an individual or group of people being targeted and mistreated for no other reason than the color of their skin. This injustice continues on into today even though racial discrimination was thought to be an event from the past. Problems of racial profiling, harassment, and the lack of fair employment opportunities have carried over into the twenty first century and remain a controversial topic of today’s period.

It is now clear that African Americans are still facing depression-like unemployment levels. Policymakers should obviously address the increasing problem of unemployment in whatever plan comes together to raise the federal debt limit by August 2, but there are unique structural obstacles that prevent African Americans from fully benefiting from economic and labor market growth. These obstacles deserve particular attention when unemployment rates for African Americans stand at the highest levels since 1984. This issue only briefly explains about the high unemployment rates and explores the reasons for them, including particular weaknesses in parts that offer disproportionate employment opportunities for African Americans, long unemployment spells, and the recurring “first fired, last hired” phenomenon among African Americans that plagues our nation’s workforce practices.
Problems of racial profiling, harassment, and the lack of fair employment opportunities have carried over into the twenty first century and remain a controversial topic of today’s period. Throughout history we can see the improvement and the prevention of racial discrimination, but it is evident that this controversial topic still lingers in our modern day
