Abstract
“The best part of being in the medical field was to see the patient’s face when you took care of them. Some patients didn’t have family like ours to take care of one another and it broke my heart to see that but I made sure that they got the best care in the world. The feeling that you can brighten up someone’s day by giving them the care they need, is something that made me love my job even more” (S.Newman, 2016). My mom is such an inspiring woman; she is the main reason why I want to become a nurse. The only woman I know who was flexible in any type of environment; clinics, hospitals, and even patients’ home. Yes, I wanted to give up but with my mom consistently reminding me about the beauty of nursing, I realized that giving up is not going to solve anything. There was a quote that interest me about how nursing students first felt like a nurse and I knew I wanted to do the same exact thing, “I comforted my resident while he was coping with the death of his sister. Even though I did not feel like a real nurse at this time, I think ‘it might be’ because nurses also heal minds and not just bodies and I did this” (Williams, 2015, pg.50-52). From different parts of my life, I had the opportunity to see what a great nurse supposed to look like and now I have the opportunity to become one.
