Back then it was against the law not to attend church, men and woman had to sit Far from each other. The Salem witch trials were a big deal at this time because a lot of people went against their religion. Puritans were supposed to live by a law and they believed that anyone who committed a sin(like sleeping in church or stealing food) should be punished because it was against God. Just because the devil was known for being bad for the Puritans the devil was just as real as God. Many were stuck between good and evil but some Puritans were pretty much stuck in the middle so the devil would choose the weaker people to join him. Now as you can see the Puritan life was very strict and if someone was able to do what no one else could do, then it would lead to witchcraft. The Salem witch trials was when witches had to go to court and they were being accused of witchcraft and many denied or played innocent. Although some didn't admit to being involved with witchcraft, many other women did confess because a lot was scared of the consequences they would face if they didn't confess to the jury. Now after so many years of the Salem witch trials, there is a museum located Salem Massachusetts where many people go to know more about what happened during the Salem witch
