Leadership Styles Paper
The psychodynamic approach to leadership is the technique which evaluates your own psychological make-up and what motivates you, thus you gain a better understanding of what can motivate your subordinates. The emergence of this approach have its roots from Sigmund Freud. Leaders are more effective when they have an insight to their own psychological make-up. The psychodynamic approach brings an important aspect to leadership by emphasizing our past experiences, unconscious, feelings, self-understanding and personality types. These types of leaders also encourage their subordinates to gain better insight to their own selves (The Psychodynamic Approach). My experiences with leadership are more relating to understanding those around me and learning what ways work best to lead them individually because everyone is different. I feel that an effective leader is a people person and takes the time to really understand their subordinates existing personalities. They do not compare themselves to others. Transformational leadership may be found on all levels of an organization, including teams, departments, divisions and organizations as a whole. These leaders are visionary, inspiring, daring, risk-takers, and thoughtful thinkers. They have charismatic appeal. There are four factors that influence transformational leadership:
• Inspirational Motivation: There is a consistent and prominent vision, mission, and a set of values that applies to all members
• Intellectual Stimulation: Leaders encourage their followers to be innovation and creative
• Idealized Influence: A leader can influence followers when he/she practices what they preach
• Individualized Consideration: Leaders act as mentors to their followers and reward them
