The fact is that marijuana isn’t as safe as tobacco, a study from Partnership for Drug Free Kids states that smoking a marijuana joint is the same as smoking 2.5-5 cigarettes (Drugfree, 2007). Another argument in favor of marijuana is that it has shown some validity in treating nausea, headaches, and other minor issues. A simple response to the argument is that we have over-the-counter medications for those types of minor ailments so why push for something as drastic as marijuana for something so minor?
In order to ensure that medical marijuana be abolished from this country I believe that the federal government needs to pass a law that would restrict medical marijuana dispensaries and stakeholders in the marijuana industry. In doing so they would limit the urge for people to think that they could capitalize on marijuana in those states and the supply of medical marijuana will diminish. To accomplish this, the law would need to work in a way that deters others from entering the marijuana industry in states that have allowed medical marijuana.
