But critics argue that it's not up to the athletes and they’re only paid more because people pay large amounts of money to them. It isn’t the athlete's fault they get so much money, they’re just good and deserve to be rewarded. Plus, they’re representing their state by playing. There is much debate over whether collegiate student-athletes should be compensated for their work at their respective universities. Some individuals believe that student-athletes should be paid because, like most college students, they do not have a lot of money. Many also believe that student-athletes should not be paid because they are getting to attend an institute of higher learning at a lesser price. Collegiate student-athletes should not be paid not only because they are already attending college at no cost while being able to earn money for themselves, but student- athletes also receive some benefits that are unavailable to the average college student. Some may agree, and most of them make a compelling point as to why they shouldn’t. Some of these points are because the athletes get paid already in scholarships and specific aids. " What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

Athletes getting paid to play has been discussed for long time now. College athletes feel as if they should be played to play since they are bringing in millions of dollars to the university. Some college athletes feel like they should be getting paid because they are the reason that the university is making millions of dollars, but the university doesn’t feel like they should pay them because they gave them a scholarship that covers the athlete’s tuition, housing and other things too through the whole four years they stay. That’s good and all, but how are the athletes going to get money for other things such as hanging out with friends. Some colleges don’t even let their athletes get jobs.…

Many people may or may not believe players are valuable enough to pay them. College players definitely do enough to get paid considering they are the reason most of the time that the team wins. Jared Walch went to the University of Utah and is a writer for USA Today and he writes how sometimes athletes deserve to be paid because of their contribution to their programs (Walch). Players choose to go to a school over other schools because they enjoy that school and want to see that team succeed not any other team, so they work hard to try and win games for their team. Jared Walch who is also a writer for the Daily Utah Chronicles writes on USA Today that performance does not guarantee a paycheck, so just because someone is good does not mean they should be paid big bucks (Walch).…

Universities across the country make millions of dollars every year from college athletics. However, student-athletes receive nothing except for college tuition and room/board in return, even though they are the foundation of the entire industry. This one-sided trend must not continue, for college athletes often struggle to pay for transportation, clothing, a place to live and food to eat, while the universities reap the rewards from their labors. College athletes should be paid money in some form as compensation for universities using their likeness and profiting from their athletic exploits. The first reason college athletes should be paid is that while playing sports for their schools they risk injury, and they lose time for studying which can affect their learning.…
