I have heard from people that goes to these private jails of bad fights breaking out, people getting their food taken, and it also happens in the public jails as well. Only difference in these jails is that they pay a little different. Private jails come around through signing contracts with states; that could contain clauses guarennteing high prison occupancy rates. As stated in the video they stated that some contracts required 90%-100% occupancy. Which means, if that prison doesn't fullfill the occupancy then either the state have to find people to put in those beds/prisons, or pay the company for unused bed. The video also talked about how a few states (Pennsylvania) was bribing officials to get the empty bunks filled. They were doing it in an illegal way, just locking up pretty much anyone; no matter how old or young your were. I found a website, (Hamilton Project). that stated private prisons cost the state an average of $46.50 per prisoner per day in 2012; public facilities ranged from $35.11 to $40.47. So they show that public prisons are cheaper, but really they are the same. They both have to have inmates to bring money into the facility. Empty bunk means no money will come in for that bunk, and the state has to make their money just as the jail facilities as
