My assignment consisted of observing the booking and processing protocols for inmates arriving or departing the facilities at the counter operations center. I was paired up with senior veteran, Deputy Allen. Deputy Allen informed me that Tuesdays thru Thursdays are their busiest days of the week due to arrangements, medical appoints, inmates departures and receiving prisoners from other consortium county agreements for holding inmates until their arrangement to be seen by the court system for that particular circumstances. Butler County Jail is holding approximately 800 inmates for offenses ranging from a misdemeanor to a Class 1 Felony Offense. Today, my observation was going over the court documents for the inmates that had to go to court. Sgt Allen checked the list twice for the personnel had court and checked the computer database for location of the prisoner in the pod cells. After reconfirming the list, Sgt Allen communicates with each pod to have the prisoners prepare to be escorted up to the receiving center part of the jail. At this point, the inmates wait in a holding cell until the dedicated officer from Butler County Jail or an outside agency representative will arrive to escort them to the specified court system. During this shift, at least 30 inmates were escorted to various levels of the court system and another 12-15 was released during this work shift at the Butler County Jail. Overall, the large amount of personnel being in/out processed appeared to go very smooth without much disruption in the
