Primary Types of Cancer

Though there are about 200 different types of cancer known today that will affect the human body, the three most common and deadliest types of cancer include: lung, breast cancer, and colon and rectal cancer. Cancer is when there is a change in our genes and it causes the cells to grow and divide more than usual. The human body's normal cell will know when to stop growing and dividing but a cancer cell doesn't which results in it multiplying into a lump, or in other words, a tumor. This can happen in any part of the body and can result in one of the many different types of cancer.

One of the most common and life threatening types of cancer is lung cancer. It is the number one leading cancer in America and has the most death counts in both men and women. There are about 400,000 people in the United States currently battling this deadly disease with only about a 17 percent survival rate and a total of about 160,000 deaths will have happened by the end of this year. Men and women that are 60 years of age and older make up a whopping 81 percent of the people in the United States with lung cancer. There are many

Colon cancer can be very treatable if caught at an early stage. There are various ways to get treated if diagnosed with colon cancers such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Most people that have colon cancer and that are more likely to get it are people that are 50 years of age and older. About 140,000 people are diagnosed with colon cancer each year and a total of about 50,000 deaths will have happened by the end of this year. Some causes of colon cancer include: polyps that exist in the large intestine, genetics, and an unhealthy and unbalanced diet. You can prevent and lower the risk of getting colon cancer by getting screen tested, eating a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables, getting exercise, watching your weight, and limiting use of smoking and
