When you enter a high quality pre-kindergarten classroom you feel comforted that everything is in place for children to enjoy learning and to make progress in their development. This happens through the interaction between the physical and social environment. It is observable in the classroom set-up, organization and overall feeling when you enter the room. For instance, children who were not able to socialize in the beginning of the school year are able to interact positively with others and feel confident as a participant in the classroom by the middle or end of the school year. Children who cannot resolve conflicts are able to do so with the guidance of teachers supporting their growth and development. My goal is to create a classroom that fits the needs of each individual child who can gain confidence in learning on their own as well as in part of a group. Morning meeting time gives children an opportunity to learn with others. They learn to listen to other children and respect that they can learn from their peers. They also learn to become confident to participate in a group learning situation.
