Poverty & H Becoming an adult makes you think about the future, what job you’ll get, where you’ll work and what would happen if I couldn't pay my rent or pay for food. Life can get scary and be unpredictable. Some people bring themselves to bad situations some are unfortunate and get put into a situation they never expected would happen. People don't realise that one mistake with money or the choices they make can greatly improve their chances of becoming homeless or even stuck below the poverty line. One major point we need to address is statistics. Knowing how many people are currently living under the poverty line, or the number of homeless is key to figuring out ways to help or ways to predict statistics in the future. Currently in the United States there are 564,708 homeless. Hawaii ranks number nine in the nation poverty rate. Hawaii’s population is around 1.4 million with about 130,000 people living in poverty. The island of Oahu is seeing increase while neighboring islands are seeing increase. Keeping that in mind Oahu has the highest population out of all the islands. There are many factors, social, and economic, that contribute to poverty and homeless numbers. Some economic factors may be lack of jobs that offer decent pay, High cost of medical care, and income gap between wealthy and the poor.
