The issue is whether ponyboy should go into the system or stay with his brothers. The debate is because Ponyboys brothers aren't the best influence for him, but if he goes into the system he will be surrounded by people who doesn't know him and won't love him like his own brothers will. The best thing for Ponyboy to do is stay with his brothers and not go into the system. If Ponyboy goes into the system he won't be with his only family he has left because his parents had died and no one will love him like his brothers. Ponyboy's brothers really do love him and will do anything for him to be safe. Chapter 5 “‘He came over to Buck’s a couple of days ago for something and found that sweatshirt.
