Voting turnout is still around the same average every year, but mobilization for third parties or a second party candidate who doesn’t have the majority is low. These problems are due to the three criticisms of the Single-Member District system. The first problem is that this system leans towards a strong two party system, regardless of everyday involvement by voters. The Republican and Democratic parties have existed and stood strong for a number of years and the chance of that changing does not appear to be anywhere in the near future. The first problem is held strong due to the second problem in the Single-Member District system. There is massive discrimination against smaller parties within our current system. Third parties do not have access to the amount of money and connections that the strong Republicans and Democrats have access to.
